- [00:00:04.410]The Food Processing Center is focused on providing
- [00:00:08.590]tools and services, and expertise for the food industry.
- [00:00:12.750]And not only do we serve the food industry
- [00:00:15.670]here in the state of Nebraska,
- [00:00:17.700]but we feel that our programs have a global reach.
- [00:00:21.350]Our clients range from startup food companies
- [00:00:24.900]who are just getting off the ground,
- [00:00:26.400]all the way to the biggest of food companies
- [00:00:29.010]who are looking at new technology, or pieces of equipment,
- [00:00:32.080]or services that they don't have in-house.
- [00:00:35.370]We started working in this facility back in 2006,
- [00:00:40.600]for developing this low-sodium salt.
- [00:00:43.130]That process we developed here in the Food Innovation Center
- [00:00:46.280]helped us to go into the market.
- [00:00:48.440]This facility has seven different pilot plants
- [00:00:51.550]that set it apart from many of it's competitors
- [00:00:54.300]around the country.
- [00:00:55.380]So we have over 18,000 square feet
- [00:00:58.580]of pilot plant capability, and that includes
- [00:01:01.670]a general plant that has kettles,
- [00:01:04.320]and baking, and dough sheeting and mixing.
- [00:01:08.490]We also have retort and spray dryers.
- [00:01:11.020]We have a dedicated extrusion plant that is world class.
- [00:01:15.240]We have a high-pressure pasteurizing plant.
- [00:01:18.710]A good thing is, with the pilot plant is,
- [00:01:21.810]we can work with the small quantities
- [00:01:24.200]before we go into bulk capacity for testing that.
- [00:01:28.790]We have the Department of Food Science and Technology,
- [00:01:31.981]their academic program, that's here on Innovation Campus.
- [00:01:36.110]We also have the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program.
- [00:01:41.040]And then we have the other research and extension,
- [00:01:44.920]the outreach, other programs that are typically found
- [00:01:47.540]with an academic program at a land grant university.
- [00:01:51.570]This is an excellent opportunity for us,
- [00:01:53.610]and it's excellent facilities.
- [00:01:55.490]And we work with the different faculties
- [00:01:57.480]here in the department, and across the university as well.
- [00:02:02.860]One of our main goals is to help Nebraska
- [00:02:05.870]elevate itself economically.
- [00:02:07.490]Create more jobs by having food companies locate here,
