The Phantom of the Opera wraps up an historic run at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

- [00:00:16.570]exclusively for students,
- [00:00:18.170]over 2,000 kids got to see the show.
- [00:00:20.600]It's also the biggest production.
- [00:00:22.400]20 semi trucks and also the highest number of people
- [00:00:27.320]to ever see a program at the Lied Center,
- [00:00:29.310]over 28,000 people.

- [00:00:33.860]The Lied Center for Performing Arts not only brings
- [00:00:36.190]great performances to the stage, education is a central
- [00:00:39.365]part of our mission, and for "Phantom of the Opera"
- [00:00:42.560]we had a wide variety of educational outreach programs,
- [00:00:45.650]where the artists from "Phantom of the Opera"
- [00:00:48.240]worked with our students.

- [00:00:56.626]So today, I get to meet with a few students,
- [00:00:59.027]field some questions,
- [00:01:00.470]give them some great answers, hopefully.
- [00:01:02.940]And listen to a few of them sing,
- [00:01:05.370]and kind of, breathe some life into their performances,
- [00:01:07.900]and help them find that next step in their performance.
- [00:01:10.330]This part, you can kinda get angry
- [00:01:11.957]at the fact that the war stole your husband from you.
- [00:01:16.000]Perfect.

- [00:01:17.667]He talked about the little details about acting
- [00:01:19.320]that you might not think of.
- [00:01:20.500]And just ways to finesse it and make them better.
- [00:01:22.710]And he also talked about performance versus auditioning

- [00:01:34.410]I'm incredibly grateful to the Lied Center
- [00:01:36.370]for always making these things available to us
- [00:01:38.584]and for letting us get tickets to go and see
- [00:01:41.427]"The Phantom of the Opera" and other shows,
- [00:01:43.210]and just having all of that right here in Lincoln
- [00:01:45.030]is so important.

- [00:01:52.430]that the Lied Center for Performing Arts makes
- [00:01:54.250]things like this happen, because if the students don't see
- [00:01:57.678]working performers, it makes it a little more challenging
- [00:02:01.100]for them to step out, once they have to get out
- [00:02:02.760]into the real world.
- [00:02:03.810]So, when you open the doors this way,
- [00:02:05.500]for people to come in and do what I'm doing today,
- [00:02:07.858]you change lives in a great, great way.

- [00:02:19.797]So, today we learned
- [00:02:21.330]a combination from "Masquerade"
- [00:02:22.960]from "Phantom of the Opera" by the two dance captains
- [00:02:25.760]of "Phantom of the Opera".
- [00:02:26.980]Masquerade, you're gonna take three walks.
- [00:02:29.270]Two, three, coming to a B plus.
- [00:02:32.240]It was really cool to do, because you don't often
- [00:02:34.860]get to do musical theater, and especially not
- [00:02:38.241]getting to learn from the professionals, themselves.
- [00:02:40.870]So, it was a really cool experience to have.
- [00:02:43.100]How do you get to the other side?
- [00:02:44.650]It's less than you think.

- [00:02:48.995]What I love, teaching master classes,
- [00:02:51.480]because I was once a student, I would have loved to have
- [00:02:55.690]done something along those lines and that was not
- [00:02:58.190]something that was necessarily an opportunity for me,

- [00:03:02.640]I really liked the acting portion,
- [00:03:05.040]they really encouraged us to act along and sing
- [00:03:08.190]with the music.
- [00:03:09.023]It gets kids and people inspired.
- [00:03:11.180]Like, I was sort of thinking about a musical theater career
- [00:03:13.550]and this sort of made me like a little more thinking
- [00:03:15.870]that it was actually possible.
- [00:03:17.360]And then you retrace your steps.

- [00:03:23.780]to expose dancers and performers to the arts
