- [00:00:01.201]Okay, go for it.
- [00:00:02.784]All right, so, good.
- [00:00:05.250]So the Nimbus Lab really, we've been pioneers
- [00:00:07.790]in a number of areas, including fire ignition technology,
- [00:00:11.420]but we bring together a lot of expertise in field robotics,
- [00:00:15.430]and controls and aerospace engineering
- [00:00:18.170]and human robot interaction.
- [00:00:19.750]And this is really a unique combination,
- [00:00:22.290]that you can't find elsewhere in the country.
- [00:00:24.270]Dr. Detweiler, has this very unique knack
- [00:00:27.700]for making things work out in the field,
- [00:00:30.750]which is amazing.
- [00:00:32.350]The things that we do,
- [00:00:33.210]we start in the lab and then he finds ways
- [00:00:35.940]for us to like, figure out how to make it work
- [00:00:38.050]in the real world, where there're always more challenges
- [00:00:40.800]and more variables
- [00:00:42.010]and he's very good at helping us figure those out.
- [00:00:44.603](drone buzzing)
- [00:00:47.360]Nebraska does some very innovative things.
- [00:00:50.220]We do a lotta things here
- [00:00:51.470]that I had never imagined were possible
- [00:00:54.260]and for a researcher that's fascinating,
- [00:00:57.010]and that's a very thrilling thing to be a part of.
- [00:00:59.410]So working with these students
- [00:01:00.620]it was really about working with them
- [00:01:02.670]to figure out how to ask the right questions,
- [00:01:04.820]and then they were able to discover the solutions.
- [00:01:08.080]Professor Detweiler, is a great mentor.
- [00:01:11.310]He's always comes up with very innovative ideas.
- [00:01:14.900]Nebraska is a great fit for when you just,
- [00:01:17.070]once I found out all the innovation, research
- [00:01:19.340]going on at the university, it really was a perfect fit.
- [00:01:22.435](drone buzzing)
- [00:01:24.431](crickets chirping)
- [00:01:26.635](drone buzzing)
- [00:01:30.633]So Drone Amplified is a startup
- [00:01:31.950]that came out of the University of Nebraska research lab.
- [00:01:35.880](drone buzzing)
- [00:01:38.150]So about a quarter of all deaths in firefighting
- [00:01:40.300]are related to aviation accidents.
- [00:01:42.410]So what we do here at Drone Amplified is we've developed
- [00:01:45.900]a drone that can start these back burns
- [00:01:49.460]that's much safer and much more accessible and reliable.
- [00:01:53.860]So the system we've been developing save lives
- [00:01:56.660]by moving the firefighters out of the aircraft,
- [00:01:59.720]and moving them outside of the danger post weather fire.
- [00:02:03.096](balls clacking)
- [00:02:06.760]The Nimbus Lab is a great place for me to work
- [00:02:09.420]as a graduate assistant and to get a degree,
- [00:02:11.740]'cause that, UAV's and drone systems
- [00:02:13.860]were what I was really excited about.
- [00:02:15.480]So, it was a great place to work,
- [00:02:17.310]and certainly set me on the trajectory I'm on today.
- [00:02:22.740]So, the evolution of the system,
- [00:02:25.110]from the research lab to a company
- [00:02:27.340]could only have happened at Nebraska,
- [00:02:29.410]where we have the expertise in natural resources,
- [00:02:32.900]and developing drone systems,
- [00:02:35.450]and in Computer Science Engineering Technology.
- [00:02:38.250]So this really could've only happened at Nebraska.
- [00:02:41.135](drone buzzing)
- [00:02:45.852](upbeat music)
