- [00:00:17.250]What have some of the highlights been
- [00:00:18.400]around campus this week?
- [00:00:19.690]Well, we kinda elevated Homecoming a little bit this year,
- [00:00:22.100]Greg, for the 150th anniversary of the university
- [00:00:25.610]and the 150th anniversary of college football, same time.
- [00:00:29.260]And so we had a big week this week
- [00:00:31.540]getting up to the game today.
- [00:00:33.299]And yesterday, big cornstalk festival on the mall
- [00:00:38.650]and we're kind of bringin' back a little bit
- [00:00:40.980]of the old yesteryear on the cornstalk
- [00:00:42.880]that used to be out on the east campus back in the day,
- [00:00:45.270]as they say.
- [00:00:47.210]Lot's of fans carrying over from last week
- [00:00:50.130]when we had that big week leading into the Ohio State game.
- [00:00:54.710]Game day back on campus for the first time in 12 years
- [00:00:58.000]is a big deal
- [00:00:58.880]and it kind of opened up our Homecoming week
- [00:01:01.350]if you want to think of it that way.
- [00:01:03.270]And we're just looking forward to a big weekend
- [00:01:06.070]with the football game this afternoon
- [00:01:07.940]and volleyball with Wisconsin tonight.
- [00:01:10.240]A big Homecoming weekend for the University of Nebraska.
- [00:01:13.200]No doubt and we welcome all the alums
- [00:01:14.380]who've made it back into town to check out the campus.
- [00:01:17.060]You did have some unbelievably big news last week
- [00:01:20.100]with the announcement regarding
- [00:01:21.130]the new Nebraska Athletics Facility.
- [00:01:23.470]You've recently announced
- [00:01:24.500]about the Nebraska Engineering Department
- [00:01:26.180]with their plans for expansion in the new Kiewit Hall.
- [00:01:28.960]What does the additional facilities announcement,
- [00:01:32.620]as it pertains to athletics, mean for the university?
- [00:01:36.240]Well I said to a lot of folks over the last few weeks
- [00:01:39.640]and leading up to the big announcements we had last week
- [00:01:42.940]that I can't remember a time or find a time
- [00:01:46.290]in the university's history
- [00:01:47.870]when we've been makin' this level of investment
- [00:01:50.540]in the future of the university
- [00:01:53.790]for a total of over $520 million of investment
- [00:01:58.740]and new facilities
- [00:02:00.310]over the next three to three and 1/2 years
- [00:02:02.620]for the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
- [00:02:04.910]Over 350 million in academic facilities
- [00:02:07.360]like the big new engineering project
- [00:02:10.050]that we talked about here recently
- [00:02:12.020]with the announcement of Kiewit Hall being built
- [00:02:14.330]for the College of Engineering.
- [00:02:15.677]$160 million investment over two phases for that college
- [00:02:20.250]and a lot of other projects on top of that on the campus.
- [00:02:24.950]And then our big announcement last week
- [00:02:28.820]of the athletics expansion
- [00:02:30.697]and the building of a new football complex,
- [00:02:33.930]new training table, new academic programs area
- [00:02:37.790]for all of our student athletes on campus
- [00:02:41.290]that's a very, very exciting development.
- [00:02:43.017]$155 million project,
- [00:02:45.300]relocation of the track and field facilities
- [00:02:47.790]up to innovation campus is part of that as well.
- [00:02:52.120]So very exciting expansion.
- [00:02:54.410]You know, we expect to compete
- [00:02:56.650]both athletically and academically at the university
- [00:03:00.510]and these investments in both sides of the house
- [00:03:03.930]are really, really critical for us as we move forward.
- [00:03:07.940]And we'll once again, we believe, lead the nation
- [00:03:11.200]in terms of the facilities that we have
- [00:03:13.960]for our student athletes here,
- [00:03:15.600]and it's very, very exciting for us.
- [00:03:17.570]Well you've mentioned engineering.
- [00:03:18.480]With Kiewit Hall expected to be open up in 2023,
- [00:03:22.130]we've heard you in the past talk
- [00:03:23.320]about the Carson Center for Emerging Arts
- [00:03:25.590]which launched this fall.
- [00:03:27.510]Give us some other highlights
- [00:03:28.630]of things that you have seen goin' on around campus.

- [00:03:49.620]augmented reality, 3D reality, holograph imaging,
- [00:03:54.330]in telling stories.
- [00:03:56.330]So big level of excitement of the building of that program.
- [00:04:00.110]Our College of Law ranks 6th
- [00:04:02.780]out of 201 law schools nationwide

- [00:04:12.610]Our College of Arts and Sciences,
- [00:04:14.070]the largest college on our campus,
- [00:04:16.250]just launched a new program
- [00:04:17.750]called College of Arts and Sciences Inquire
- [00:04:20.290]for students to dive deep

- [00:04:23.810]with thought leaders and peers.
- [00:04:26.140]Architecture, College of Architecture,
- [00:04:28.550]our students are creating a new edge interior facility
- [00:04:31.760]at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha.
- [00:04:35.360]They routinely are our architecture college's works
- [00:04:38.950]across the state in designing facilities
- [00:04:41.940]and designing things with towns and cities in the state.
- [00:04:44.890]Just another example of that.
- [00:04:47.010]Our College of Business, their career center

- [00:05:45.270]to encourage even higher ability students
