[00:00:02.973]Counting down the kickoff here,
[00:00:03.806]on the Huskers Sports Network,
[00:00:04.639]headed to a 6-44 kick off tonight.
[00:00:06.880]For the Huskers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
[00:00:08.840]And as we do each and every week
[00:00:10.360]Chance to sit down with the chancellor
[00:00:11.690]from the University of Nebraska
[00:00:12.660]Lincoln Ronnie Green, Wow!
[00:00:13.970]What a week!
[00:00:15.020]GameDay, here earlier today with their big show
[00:00:17.970]what a great showcase for the University.
[00:00:20.040]But you had a major announcement, yesterday.
[00:00:22.110]That's certainly gonna impact Husker football
[00:00:24.260]moving, moving down the road.
[00:00:25.660]What can you tell our audience about that?
[00:00:28.243]it's sure a big couple of weeks.
[00:00:29.610]We're in the middle of
[00:00:30.997]this, you know this weeks a huge week for us.
[00:00:32.970]Coming off the big win Illinois, last week.
[00:00:35.685]900th win of the program.
[00:00:38.760]A big uh, big mile marker, if you will.
[00:00:41.500]Not only the consecutive sellouts, we have
[00:00:43.660]and the most academic all Americans,
[00:00:46.530]that we're so proud of at 338.
[00:00:49.210]And now 900 wins in our football program.
[00:00:51.540]It's a pretty special thing.
[00:00:53.120]Um, but it puts us in a league company,
[00:00:55.690]nationally as you know.
[00:00:57.910]And so a big week,
[00:00:59.520]Ohio State in town tonight obviously.
[00:01:02.280]Big game, a lot of anticipation
[00:01:03.970]about this game for a long time.
[00:01:05.930]GameDay here today was a great thing.
[00:01:07.890]And seeing the hoards of Huskers Nation
[00:01:10.810]around that was exciting.
[00:01:12.840]And then ah, you know,
[00:01:14.923]we're in kind of this interesting time
[00:01:17.070]when it's the 150th anniversary year of college football.
[00:01:20.970]And ah, playing of college football nationally
[00:01:24.220]and our legacy of that here a 150th anniversary
[00:01:26.779]of the University of Nebraska
[00:01:28.410]this year we've been celebrating.
[00:01:29.730]And then yesterday we were so excited
[00:01:31.799]to be announcing a major expansion
[00:01:35.110]of our football facilities, and stadium facilities,
[00:01:39.640]And student athlete facilities.
[00:01:42.210]Uh, that we're excited about putting into place,
[00:01:44.620]here in the near future.
[00:01:46.160]And that has a 150 million dollar
[00:01:48.060]kind of ring to it too.
[00:01:50.240]So it's kind of fitting in that 150 year history
[00:01:53.630]to allows us to compete at the very top levels nationally.
[00:01:57.300]That we expect here in athletics and academics.
[00:02:00.990]So a huge week for us.
[00:02:03.710]A huge game tonight.
[00:02:04.947]And it's exciting to be here looking down the pipe
[00:02:07.390]of this game in Memorial stadium.
[00:02:09.510]Wonderful event yesterday.
[00:02:10.690]And just a huge thing for Nebraska football
[00:02:12.700]facilities really haven't been touched since 2006 .
[00:02:15.010]But there's been other things going on,
[00:02:17.200]on campus this week as well.
[00:02:18.500]You've had some majors speakers on campus.
[00:02:20.359]Last spring you had the CEO of Microsoft.
[00:02:22.453]But this year,
[00:02:23.490]eh this week you brought in another
[00:02:25.010]big name brand CEO
[00:02:26.430]and then somebody from the Federal Government was here.
[00:02:28.730]What was all this about this week?
[00:02:30.260]Well you know,
[00:02:31.130]We do have the opportunity to bring people
[00:02:34.230]to campus that are nationally and internationally known.
[00:02:37.040]We had a Noble Laureate here a week ago.
[00:02:39.647]Um, In the Ian Thompson forum.
[00:02:42.320]Last spring we had the Microsoft CEO,
[00:02:45.260]Satya Nadella here.
[00:02:47.160]At the invitation of Jeff Raikes,
[00:02:48.950]the namesake of the Raikes school of computers
[00:02:51.810]science and management.
[00:02:53.010]Um, here around the Raikes school,
[00:02:55.320]a design showcase last year.
[00:02:57.040]And this week um,
[00:02:58.950]I think they kind of timed this
[00:03:00.170]to these great game weekends.
[00:03:02.693]I think every board associated with the University
[00:03:04.610]had some kind of meeting this week it feels like
[00:03:07.040]including the Raikes school.
[00:03:08.200]And including the Raikes board.
[00:03:09.443]Um, so Jeff was back in town
[00:03:12.240]and he here for the game tonight.
[00:03:13.870]And he brought a good friend of his with him
[00:03:16.390]ah, to visit with our students and our faculty
[00:03:19.380]and staff this week Kevin Johnson
[00:03:21.470]who is the CEO of Starbucks in Seattle.
[00:03:24.759]He's been CEO there since 2017.
[00:03:27.850]His career has spanned more than 30 years
[00:03:30.076]in the global businesses,
[00:03:32.390]including 16 years in Microsoft,
[00:03:34.350]Where Jeff knew him well.
[00:03:36.330]And 5 years as the CEO of Juniper networks.
[00:03:39.610]So a great conversation, yesterday
[00:03:42.730]with our students,
[00:03:44.320]uh with Kevin Johnson from Starbucks.
[00:03:46.890]Um, and he got a chance to interact a lot
[00:03:48.910]with the Raikes students as well while he was here.
[00:03:51.540]We're just so grateful to Jeff and Trisha Raikes
[00:03:53.842]for what they do for the University
[00:03:55.837]and for this wonderful program that we have
[00:03:58.590]uh, in the Raikes school.
[00:03:59.600]And then our law college
[00:04:01.300]also had a big visitor here.
[00:04:04.684]Ajit Pai who is the chairman
[00:04:07.110]of the Federal Communications Commission.
[00:04:08.930]The FCC as the public knows it,
[00:04:11.440]uh, visited campus this last week.
[00:04:13.970]Um, hosted by the college of law
[00:04:15.910]space, cyber, and telecommunications law program.
[00:04:19.350]Uh, Gus Hurwitz is our facility member
[00:04:21.181]who manages that program.
[00:04:23.170]It's one of a kind in the world, here.
[00:04:25.910]Um, Pai participated in a public conversation
[00:04:30.730]that Gus moderated in the Nebraska Union.
[00:04:33.660]Um, it was part of a day long visit,
[00:04:35.810]that Ajit had through the Universities
[00:04:38.680]Robert B Daugherty Water for Global
[00:04:40.540]uh, Water for Food Global Institute.
[00:04:42.723]Um, uh, that we had last week.
[00:04:45.910]So he actually even visited a farm
[00:04:48.130]while he was here.
[00:04:49.145]Near Waverly, for a discussion about dry land
[00:04:51.780]farming operations precision technology AG,
[00:04:54.750]You know uh,
[00:04:55.583]Precision Ag as we refer to it
[00:04:58.240]and related data collection.
[00:05:00.020]Something of great interest to the FCC.
[00:05:02.930]So uh, opportunity again for our law
[00:05:05.520]our engineering, our business,
[00:05:07.060]our AG students to interact
[00:05:08.530]with a national leader, like Ajit
[00:05:10.780]and then Kevin Johnson.
[00:05:12.010]That we were talking about from Starbucks.
[00:05:13.550]So always bringing those kind of people here
[00:05:16.510]for our students to have those opportunities to learn.
[00:05:19.932]What a week!
[00:05:20.765]This will be tough to top,
[00:05:21.598]although next week may do that.
[00:05:23.280]It's a big week on campus, cause it's homecoming.
[00:05:25.530]We'll celebrate that next week
[00:05:26.860]at the North Western game.
[00:05:28.060]Yeah, we kick immediately in tomorrow,
[00:05:30.630]Um, to the homecoming week our 150th anniversary
[00:05:35.320]Uh, a full slate of activities
[00:05:36.990]all through the week.
[00:05:38.742]And then up on Friday with what's now being called
[00:05:40.870]Cornstock Festival, it's actually
[00:05:42.830]a kind of kick back
[00:05:43.860]to the old East campus days
[00:05:45.350]when they use to have Cornstock over on East campus.
[00:05:48.640]With Festival kind of environment
[00:05:50.230]on Memorial Plaza here on City campus.
[00:05:52.780]So looking forward to a great Homecoming week.
[00:05:55.390]And then the game of course with North Western
[00:05:58.563]So a big week!
[00:05:59.752]Excited about these new facilities
[00:06:01.960]and what that's going to do for our football program
[00:06:04.530]and the size of our football program.
[00:06:06.023]Coach Frost talks so much
[00:06:08.380]about wanting to bring that walk on program back
[00:06:11.170]to full heights.
[00:06:12.270]And this is gonna allow us to do that
[00:06:14.420]in new and great ways.
[00:06:15.630]So exciting great week here in Husker land.
[00:06:18.522]Thank you so much for squeezin us in.
[00:06:20.210]Enjoy the game tonight.
