- [00:00:00.800](upbeat music)
- [00:00:06.120]Hey guys, I'm Lindsay, third year interior design student
- [00:00:09.870]from Sabetha, Kansas and welcome to my life.
- [00:00:14.740]I usually start my day by grabbing a quick breakfast
- [00:00:17.780]at the dining hall.
- [00:00:19.350]Cather is definitely one of my favorite places
- [00:00:21.900]to grab lunch.
- [00:00:24.100]One of my favorite parts about living
- [00:00:25.540]on campus is being close to everything.
- [00:00:27.825]It is the oldest dorm on campus and it's just very homey,
- [00:00:33.770]which is why I really enjoy living there
- [00:00:36.780]and it also means that I'm a short walk
- [00:00:39.110]from everywhere I need to go during the day,
- [00:00:41.440]which is really nice.
- [00:00:43.510]So this morning I'm actually going to be studying
- [00:00:47.120]in my floor lounge, which has a nice big round table
- [00:00:51.710]in it so I can spread out all my stuff
- [00:00:55.000]and work on my studio project.
- [00:00:57.840]So now I am in what we call Harry Potter Hallway.
- [00:01:01.300]It's a little bit Harry Potter-esque
- [00:01:04.140]and it's another great place to study during the day
- [00:01:06.619]because we can see into our courtyard,
- [00:01:10.340]which is only accessible by going through Neihardt.
- [00:01:13.990]I just spent the morning working on my boards
- [00:01:16.028]and just sent them off to print.
- [00:01:18.270]So now is gonna be a good time to grab some lunch.
- [00:01:20.910]Can I have spinach, tomatoes, and olives?
- [00:01:24.114](upbeat music)
- [00:01:29.597]There you go.
- [00:01:30.770]So I just grabbed some lunch at Husker Heroes,
- [00:01:33.540]one of my favorite little lunch places on campus
- [00:01:36.800]and now I'm headed across campus to the College
- [00:01:40.600]of Architecture to pick up my prints and meet my professor.
- [00:01:44.606]I love walking across campus, especially this time of year
- [00:01:49.480]because there's so much going on.
- [00:01:52.940]I love this side of campus because the Sheldon is here
- [00:01:56.470]and also the Lied Center and the School of Music
- [00:02:01.788]and the Architecture Hall are all right close together.
- [00:02:03.820]This is Architecture Hall.
- [00:02:05.240]It's where I spend a large majority of my time.
- [00:02:08.200]A lot of my classes are here.
- [00:02:09.924](upbeat music)
- [00:02:17.490]This is my friend Anna.
- [00:02:19.240]What are you doing, Anna?
- [00:02:20.470]I am laser cutting for a model
- [00:02:22.460]for our final studio project.
- [00:02:30.280]So this is where I have studio.
- [00:02:32.460]So what's interesting about my studio is
- [00:02:34.510]that it's two levels.
- [00:02:35.570]So I set on this level, but some of classmates sit
- [00:02:38.287]down there on that level usually.
- [00:02:40.790]Studio class is not really a lecture.
- [00:02:42.480]We more just work on our projects and get feedback
- [00:02:44.754]from our professors and also from each other.
- [00:02:48.670]So I just pinned up and now I'm waiting
- [00:02:51.310]for my professor to come so she can redline my work.
- [00:02:56.470]I'm wondering if these in general just need
- [00:02:59.420]to get slightly larger in font size.
- [00:03:02.670]Should I keep like this line work in there
- [00:03:06.050]or pull it out?
- [00:03:07.869]And it may be even be in that way
- [00:03:10.176]and it can be a wayfinding mechanism.
- [00:03:11.570]Investigate that.
- [00:03:13.138]So think about that.
- [00:03:14.306]That's one thing, like how we get in.
- [00:03:15.712]Not fat line.
- [00:03:18.320]So I could have the furniture in here
- [00:03:20.140]and called out in here.
- [00:03:21.489]Yes.
- [00:03:22.540]So right now I am headed to Gomez Art Supply
- [00:03:25.960]to pick up some stuff for my graphic design class.
- [00:03:28.780]So here is Gomez.
- [00:03:30.100]It's honestly one of my favorite places
- [00:03:31.840]in the whole wide world.
- [00:03:34.000]We are back in studio.
- [00:03:35.780]Let's have a look at my Gomez goodies.
- [00:03:39.440]A bone folder for binding books.
- [00:03:41.380]It likes creases the paper so you get a nice straight fold.
- [00:03:45.160]And also in here are some screw posts
- [00:03:49.140]for book binding as well.
- [00:03:51.850]Right now I am standing in our material lab
- [00:03:55.082]in the College of Architecture.
- [00:03:56.938]We change out the material display fairly often
- [00:03:58.720]so a lot of times you can come in and see something new
- [00:04:02.610]that you haven't seen before.
- [00:04:04.470]So these are some materials that I pulled
- [00:04:06.400]for a project I'm currently working on.
- [00:04:08.579]There's carpet, wood flooring, and then some upholsteries.
- [00:04:12.920]This is actually for acoustical purposes
- [00:04:16.300]and the felt is as well.
- [00:04:18.110]Right now, I am taking a graphic design studio
- [00:04:20.810]in addition to my interior design studio
- [00:04:23.210]and I've really enjoyed it because it's allowed me
- [00:04:25.730]to combine my knowledge of interior design
- [00:04:28.770]and graphic design.
- [00:04:29.960]So one project that I've been working
- [00:04:32.197]on this semester is a brand book actually
- [00:04:34.720]for an interior design organization.
- [00:04:38.264]One of the things that I really love
- [00:04:40.700]about our college is The Link.
- [00:04:43.140]So this is The Link.
- [00:04:44.890]It connects the old College of Law
- [00:04:47.460]to the old University library.
- [00:04:49.560]And sometimes we even play basketball.
- [00:04:51.450]We put a basketball goal right there
- [00:04:53.600]and play basketball here in The Link as well.
- [00:04:57.010]So in my welding class, we have been learning
- [00:05:00.310]all about metal working.
- [00:05:01.870]So we learned how to use a torch a few weeks ago
- [00:05:04.742]and recently we've been learning about mig welding.
- [00:05:08.720]So I have been doing a little practicing
- [00:05:12.420]and this is what it's looking like so far.
- [00:05:15.530]So it basically gives us an opportunity
- [00:05:17.574]to be able to talk to actual people
- [00:05:20.270]who are tradesmen in the field
- [00:05:22.090]and know what we're talking about when we speak with them.
- [00:05:24.680]Check it out.
- [00:05:25.890]Not half bad for an amateur, huh?
- [00:05:30.490]After a busy day, I am back in Neihardt
- [00:05:33.230]and ready to wrap up a few last homework things
- [00:05:35.930]before I head off to bed.
- [00:05:38.360]I am so glad you guys came along for the day.
- [00:05:40.930]I hope you got to see a little taste
- [00:05:43.210]of what it's like to be an interior design student
- [00:05:45.426]here at the University of Nebraska.
- [00:05:48.250]If I could say one thing about the college,
- [00:05:50.470]it would be that it's a place of community
- [00:05:54.960]where I know so many people and they're always willing
- [00:05:59.990]to help you with anything that comes along
- [00:06:02.880]and make you a better designer and a better person.
- [00:06:08.109](upbeat music)
