- [00:00:04.770]Today the students are setting up for the bank.
- [00:00:07.340]We have 12 students who are bankers.
- [00:00:09.750]For each week we have two tellers,
- [00:00:12.460]we have somebody who works
- [00:00:14.350]at the depositors table,
- [00:00:16.300]and helps mostly the little ones,
- [00:00:18.560]kindergarten and first grade
- [00:00:19.770]to fill out their deposit slips.
- [00:00:21.500]Now write your name right here, again.
- [00:00:24.670]It's really fun helping kids that are younger
- [00:00:28.465]than you and you kind of teach them math.
- [00:00:32.220]They know how to fill out their
- [00:00:33.120]own deposit slips.
- [00:00:34.160]They're excited to tell you the amount
- [00:00:35.510]of money that they saved.
- [00:00:36.343]They I know exactly how much they have
- [00:00:37.680]in their account.
- [00:00:38.690]What they need to do to get
- [00:00:39.640]to the next prize level.
- [00:00:41.150]And you just see a lot of growth with students
- [00:00:43.280]that normally, probably would have went
- [00:00:45.780]and spent the money
- [00:00:46.613]as soon as they received it.
- [00:00:47.460]But now they're actually wanting to save it
- [00:00:49.400]and bring it into the bank.
- [00:00:50.590]We try to develop the skills they're they're
- [00:00:52.420]gonna have to use when they are adults.
- [00:00:55.010]So, every week it's a learning lesson for them.
- [00:00:57.928]Every grade in school except preschool comes
- [00:01:00.830]down to deposit their money.
- [00:01:04.000]Then they get to choose a sticker,
- [00:01:06.630]and if they achieved the next goal
- [00:01:09.910]they get a prize.
- [00:01:11.110]The bank brings the community, as a whole,
- [00:01:13.790]into the school in a very positive role model
- [00:01:16.840]for kids and the students themselves
- [00:01:19.410]can begin a savings habit very early on.
- [00:01:22.230]What we think is just a great opportunity
- [00:01:24.480]to serve a lot of the youth in our communities,
- [00:01:26.643]and a good way to give back to the community
- [00:01:30.290]in the form of financial education for our youth.
- [00:01:32.840]The biggest thing we tried to do in education
- [00:01:34.860]is to help kids see the connection
- [00:01:36.310]between what they're learning in school
- [00:01:38.090]and the real world,
- [00:01:38.923]and this is such a perfect example of that.
- [00:01:41.590]A project like this is certainly,
- [00:01:43.160]takes a lot of time and planning and doesn't
- [00:01:45.760]happen without a lot of great support.
- [00:01:47.510]We were incredibly lucky to have
- [00:01:49.009]the Nebraska Council in Economic Education
- [00:01:51.510]to really lead us through that process,
- [00:01:53.400]and help us anticipate all of the different
- [00:01:55.270]things that we might need to think about.
- [00:01:57.110]We know that when students understand
- [00:01:59.017]what money and resources are,
- [00:02:01.380]and how those can be put to good use,
- [00:02:03.410]not only for themselves and their family
- [00:02:05.440]but also for the betterment of others,
- [00:02:06.890]then we've helped create better citizens.
- [00:02:08.640]So businesses realize
- [00:02:10.460]that, you know, the future of our city,
- [00:02:12.372]our state, our country, and our world,
- [00:02:14.280]are right here in our schools.
- [00:02:16.889](all cheering)
- [00:02:19.010]We've had a great program,
- [00:02:20.730]we've been very blessed to have a great
- [00:02:22.430]partnership with Thayer County Bank,
- [00:02:24.240]and I cannot thank them enough for that.
- [00:02:28.260]And I was very, very impressed just how
- [00:02:31.030]efficient the tellers, and Mr. Wiedel
- [00:02:33.370]and the teachers,,
- [00:02:34.410]all manage their bank.
- [00:02:36.330]I wish we could get people to process
- [00:02:38.480]through our bank lines as efficiently
- [00:02:40.570]as you guys do here.
- [00:02:41.970]No regrets at all.
- [00:02:43.040]Every week there's always a story
- [00:02:44.540]that we can take back to the bank of some
- [00:02:46.730]amazing kids that was able to save money
- [00:02:48.706]and put it in their bank account at the school,
- [00:02:51.360]which they trust and they just love to be able
- [00:02:54.220]to do it every week.
- [00:02:56.000]We'd encourage all banks to enter
- [00:02:57.820]into this particular program.
- [00:02:59.440]We think that the curriculum that's been
- [00:03:01.550]established is one that really helps youth.
- [00:03:05.087]$1807.02, good job, Zazero.
- [00:03:10.299]Thank you.
