- [00:00:00.427](upbeat guitar riff)
- [00:00:02.050]We welcome you back to spring football coverage
- [00:00:03.960]here on the Huskers Sports Network, 1:00 kick-off
- [00:00:06.040]today for the Huskers in the red, white spring
- [00:00:08.000]scrimmage, the second one for head football
- [00:00:10.150]coach Scott Frost, and delighted to be joined by
- [00:00:12.480]University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor
- [00:00:14.100]Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:15.160]I don't know that I've ever been around
- [00:00:16.740]a program coming off of a 4-8 season where
- [00:00:18.930]the excitement level is as high as it is
- [00:00:21.080]for this year.
- [00:00:21.913]Are you sharing in that enthusiasm
- [00:00:23.440]about the upcoming year?
- [00:00:24.427][Chancellor Ronnie Green] Oh, absolutely,
- [00:00:25.480]you know as you, you think about the, the
- [00:00:28.215]progress that has been made in that first year,
- [00:00:31.720]and the progress that's continuing to be made
- [00:00:33.950]as we ramp up for year two, uh, that's evident
- [00:00:37.170]on all fronts, and uh, Scott and his folks um, share
- [00:00:41.160]that enthusiasm and you continue to see the
- [00:00:43.645]recruiting efforts paying off as we have recently
- [00:00:46.920]here this past week, uh, you just can't, you can't
- [00:00:49.680]help but be excited and anticipatory about how great
- [00:00:52.470]it's going to be to see them on the field, even
- [00:00:54.590]though it's a practice game.
- [00:00:55.660]Right. And it's sold out.
- [00:00:56.845][Chancellor Green] And it's sold out. That's right.
- [00:00:58.720]Well, everybody's obviously always
- [00:01:00.730]excited about football, but there's another sport that's
- [00:01:03.120]gathering a lot of headlines here in the last week or so,
- [00:01:05.430]and that's men's basketball, with the hiring of
- [00:01:07.790]Fred Hoiberg, who, uh, my goodness are people
- [00:01:10.630]excited about this hire, your thoughts about
- [00:01:12.520]that addition to the staff.
- [00:01:13.527][Chancellor Green] Well, a great hire obviously
- [00:01:16.000]and tremendous excitement, in all of Husker
- [00:01:19.040]athletics about that, and especially in
- [00:01:20.920]basketball of course, and coming to lead Husker
- [00:01:23.870]basketball, and you know he's, he, he reminded me
- [00:01:27.000]a little bit as we kinda went through this process
- [00:01:30.170]of sort of like Bill Moos, I mean we talked about
- [00:01:32.370]Bill Moos, how he seemed like he was a Nebraskan
- [00:01:34.140]that didn't know he was a Nebraskan, well
- [00:01:35.570]Fred Hoiberg is a Nebraskan and he's just back
- [00:01:38.040]to be a Nebraskan, all right? So, you know, it's
- [00:01:40.940]great to see him come onboard and to have welcomed him
- [00:01:44.070]here um, recently and the great fan support
- [00:01:46.755]that he talked about, and the facilities that he has
- [00:01:50.040]to work with, um, you just have to be excited about
- [00:01:52.603]great things being ahead having someone like him
- [00:01:55.470]here to lead our program.
- [00:01:56.590]And, you were excited that his family
- [00:01:58.150]has deep ties in the agriculture community.
- [00:01:59.997][Chancellor Green] Oh, absolutely, you know at the,
- [00:02:04.321]when we um, he introduced himself to Nebraskans
- [00:02:07.152]here, um he talked about, deeply about his family
- [00:02:10.030]and of course his grandfather, who was a coach here
- [00:02:12.590]and his other grandfather who was a professor here
- [00:02:16.030]of history and, and (clears throat) his father who
- [00:02:18.877]was a professor at Iowa State, um, over his entire
- [00:02:22.730]career um, with ag roots, and some rural sociology roots,
- [00:02:26.228]it uh, it's just a really special thing to listen to him
- [00:02:31.060]talk about how just felt like he was coming home.
- [00:02:33.269]Yes. Well, the spring game's a great
- [00:02:35.000]event for campus, a lot of alums and fans do come
- [00:02:37.410]back to the campus to Lincoln to soak in the game,
- [00:02:40.490]but I hear there's another great event attracting
- [00:02:42.790]a big crowd on campus, what can you tell us about that?
- [00:02:45.257][Chancellor Green] Well, every, every spring the
- [00:02:48.130]Raikes School of Computer Science and Management,
- [00:02:50.500]one of our elite, premier programs in the university
- [00:02:54.109]um, has what they call their Design Studio Showcase,
- [00:02:58.090]so, it, this program brings together computer science
- [00:03:01.208]with management, with business, and these students,
- [00:03:04.600]it's a very highly competitive program, it's very hard
- [00:03:07.310]to get in this program, about 40 students per class
- [00:03:11.260]um, through that, that school, and one of the elements of
- [00:03:15.690]that is they do a design studio project, uh in their
- [00:03:19.997]capstone, and it's with clients out in the real world
- [00:03:23.810]that contract the Raikes School to develop um, applications
- [00:03:27.488]for them, and that's rolled out every spring,
- [00:03:30.930]in April, uh, so this coming week, uh, is the week for
- [00:03:34.520]the Raikes School's Design Studio Showcase, and uh
- [00:03:37.270]Jeff Raikes will be here, the namesake of the school,
- [00:03:40.080]a native of Ashland, um, was a former exec of Microsoft
- [00:03:44.429]in his career throughout his career, and ran the Bill
- [00:03:48.210]and Melinda Gates Foundation before he retired here just
- [00:03:51.230]a few years ago, um, Jeff will be here and his wife
- [00:03:54.780]Trisha, and they've invited a special guest in, every
- [00:03:58.270]year they have a, a kind of highlighted speaker
- [00:04:00.899]associated with the Design Studio Showcase, and this
- [00:04:03.790]year it's a big one, uh the CEO of Microsoft himself,
- [00:04:07.400]Satya Nadella, will be here to both uh, interact with and
- [00:04:12.733]work with the Raikes School's students, but we're also
- [00:04:16.640]hosting him in a conversation for the greater public
- [00:04:20.040]uh, big event that we'll be doing at the Lied Center
- [00:04:23.030]on April 18th, um, doors open will open at 11:15
- [00:04:27.030]that morning, we're opening it to the general public
- [00:04:29.930]for a conversation with Satya and Jeff, Jeff Raikes, where
- [00:04:34.970]they're talking about, uh, what's ahead in the future
- [00:04:38.240]of tech development, and in what these Raikes School
- [00:04:42.100]grads will be part of uh, as we move forward, so
- [00:04:45.060]it's a great opportunity to have him here, very
- [00:04:47.070]excited about that, looking forward to a packed
- [00:04:49.560]Lied Center that day to listen to great conversation,
- [00:04:52.250]might remember a few years ago, um, think it was
- [00:04:54.888]um, maybe like 2009, so ten years ago, uh, there was
- [00:04:59.430]a similar kind of event where uh, Bill Gates, the
- [00:05:02.846]CEO of course at that time, a builder of Microsoft,
- [00:05:07.000]and Warren Buffett had a conversation like that on
- [00:05:10.160]the Lied Center stage, so we think this is gonna be
- [00:05:12.290]a similar kind of event um, here in Lincoln that
- [00:05:16.300]we're very excited about.
- [00:05:17.830]That's fantastic. Jeff Raikes one of
- [00:05:19.520]the great alums of the University of Nebraska, while
- [00:05:21.580]they're in town are students gonna have a chance to,
- [00:05:23.420]to maybe connect a little bit with Jeff?
- [00:05:24.937][Chancellor Green] Yeah, so, Jeff comes in
- [00:05:27.360]twice a year and works with the Raikes School students
- [00:05:30.630]uh, once in the fall uh, last year actually we
- [00:05:34.230]celebrated around the Colorado football game weekend,
- [00:05:37.030]it was the 10th anniversary of the Raikes School, and
- [00:05:39.910]uh, so Jeff and Trisha were here interacting with
- [00:05:42.300]students, Jeff gave a big lecture to them that time
- [00:05:45.048]um, and every year as I was talking about earlier,
- [00:05:48.900]the Design Studio Showcase event in April, he's here
- [00:05:51.830]every year for that, and interacts with them and is
- [00:05:54.857]part of their presentations, and their showcase
- [00:05:57.910]presentations, so he'll be doing that, along with
- [00:06:00.280]Satya, um here this coming week and it'll be a great
- [00:06:03.290]thing for them and we're looking forward to having
- [00:06:05.690]them on campus.
- [00:06:06.620]Awesome. Great things. Well, enjoy that,
- [00:06:08.480]enjoy the game today, it's always just fun to have everybody
- [00:06:10.780]come back to town, we welcome everybody back onto campus,
- [00:06:13.459]as well.
- [00:06:14.399][Chancellor Green] It's, it'll be great, it's it'll
- [00:06:17.160]be a great, great day, um with um, all of those folks
- [00:06:20.310]filling that stadium, watching the future of Husker
- [00:06:22.829]football play out in front of our eyes. Go Big Red.
- [00:06:26.250]Chancellor's with us here on our pre-game
- [00:06:27.760]show, we've got more coming up next.
