- [00:00:00.000]Hey there, we're gonna talk about the 3D printer.
- [00:00:02.450]This MakerBot Replicator Plus.
- [00:00:04.420]We're gonna talk about how to set it up,
- [00:00:05.404]and some of the safety concerns.
- [00:00:07.240]The way the 3D printer works
- [00:00:08.440]it uses plastic from a spool,
- [00:00:10.810]and it goes through the extruder.
- [00:00:12.470]And the software prints it out and moves the extruder around
- [00:00:16.140]to get it onto the build plate
- [00:00:17.960]to make a three dimensional object.
- [00:00:20.010]So some of the safety concerns,
- [00:00:21.850]the extruder gets extremely hot.
- [00:00:23.910]Over 200 degrees celsius.
- [00:00:25.520]So we wanna make sure that that is not touched.
- [00:00:28.190]Additionally, this gantry moves and is open,
- [00:00:31.980]so we'll wanna make sure that there's no
- [00:00:33.920]loose clothing or jewelry.
- [00:00:35.710]We'll start by changing the filament for the MakerBot.
- [00:00:39.219]To do that, we're gonna use the onscreen controls.
- [00:00:43.620]So I'm gonna go to filament,
- [00:00:45.770]and unload filament, selecting that.
- [00:00:48.520]Now it's gonna through its process to heat up the extruder,
- [00:00:52.030]and eject the filament.
- [00:00:53.050]So it's just ejecting the material,
- [00:00:56.040]so I'm going to lift up the material tray.
- [00:01:01.430]And it says unloading is complete.
- [00:01:04.220]So I can
- [00:01:06.220]spin this around to take back in the filament.
- [00:01:12.580]Gonna use these two tabs to eject the spool.
- [00:01:20.360]And then I'm going to secure the end of the filament,
- [00:01:22.900]so it doesn't get lost, like that.
- [00:01:27.280]Next I'm gonna take my new filament spool,
- [00:01:31.210]and same way, I'm going to clip it into the material tray
- [00:01:36.520]so it's secure.
- [00:01:38.400]And stick it into the receiving hole.
- [00:01:43.070]And I feed it through,
- [00:01:44.070]I'm watching for it to come out of this tube,
- [00:01:47.010]and just by a couple of inches.
- [00:01:49.328](upbeat music)
- [00:01:53.710]And now, on my screen, I will choose load filament.
- [00:01:59.470]Again, it will heat the extruder
- [00:02:01.230]up to the appropriate temperature.
- [00:02:03.780]And you will follow the onscreen instructions.
- [00:02:06.850]So it says to load the filament,
- [00:02:09.080]and I will insert until it begins pulling on its own.
- [00:02:12.370]And I will let it pull.
- [00:02:13.780]And them I'm gonna watch down here
- [00:02:15.350]until my filament extruded turns to the orange that we need.
- [00:02:22.240]It's coming out.
- [00:02:23.450]I'm watching, and now it turned orange.
- [00:02:27.170]So I can select that the filament is extruding.
- [00:02:30.250]Now I'm gonna head over to the computer to set up the print.
- [00:02:33.420]Using the software MakeBot Print, I've opened my design
- [00:02:36.840]and I can see it on the build plate.
- [00:02:38.830]I'll adjust the settings to
- [00:02:39.930]what I'm looking for in this product.
- [00:02:42.216](upbeat music)
- [00:03:05.307]Now that I have my settings properly adjusted,
- [00:03:07.270]I'll send it to the printer.
- [00:03:09.800]Now that the file has been sent over to the printer,
- [00:03:13.150]it will go through a few initializing steps,
- [00:03:15.470]and then begin printing.
- [00:03:17.430]I'm gonna stick with the 3D printer,
- [00:03:19.210]just for a couple minutes,
- [00:03:20.850]to make sure that the print has started appropriately.
- [00:03:24.550]Once it's done with a couple layers,
- [00:03:26.210]I'm gonna go ahead and step away
- [00:03:27.640]and let the 3D printer work its magic.
- [00:03:33.110]Now you'll notice that our print has finished.
- [00:03:36.280]So we easily pull the tray off,
- [00:03:38.900]and we can
- [00:03:39.733]flex the tray
- [00:03:41.990]to loosen our print
- [00:03:44.710]and pop it off.
- [00:03:45.650]In the case that it is a little more difficult,
- [00:03:47.772]we do have a spatula here to help remove the material.
- [00:03:51.650]Once we have it off of our plate,
- [00:03:54.630]we can reinsert and snap in the build plate.
- [00:03:58.810]Now we're ready for our next print job.
- [00:04:00.951](upbeat music)
