[00:00:31.040]I'm about to be the first person from my family
[00:00:33.010]to graduate from college,.
[00:00:34.070]And I really think that the university
[00:00:35.660]has given me the opportunities
[00:00:37.450]and the tools to get there,
[00:00:38.520]and it's also going to continue
[00:00:39.930]giving me those tools to be successful
[00:00:43.160]for the rest of my life and my career,

[00:00:45.910]We're here NU Advocacy Day,
[00:00:47.450]so basically just to let everyone here
[00:00:49.680]at the legislature know why it's important
[00:00:52.300]to fund the university,
[00:00:53.270]what that funding goes to.
[00:00:54.180]Kind of give them real faces and real stories
[00:00:57.170]about what's going on at the university.
[00:00:59.090]I came out here today to represent my fellow students
[00:01:01.510]and also to provide a positive example
[00:01:03.740]of how students can engage
[00:01:05.090]in the policy process in our state
[00:01:07.290]and understand what kind of an impact they can have
[00:01:09.150]on their personal lives and on the state as a whole.
[00:01:11.910]Where there's such a strong sense of community.
[00:01:14.780]And such a drive for excellence.
[00:01:17.480]This university is truly one of a kind.
[00:01:20.730]Right after graduation,
[00:01:22.060]I went out to Washington D.C.
[00:01:23.530]I hopped around the senate, the house,
[00:01:25.593]worked for the Executive Office of the President.
[00:01:27.870]And I can trace back every single one of those jobs
[00:01:30.350]and trace it back to a course that I took
[00:01:32.310]within the j school that helped me
[00:01:33.670]get to where I am today
[00:01:34.610]and helped me take advantage
[00:01:35.720]of all of those great opportunities.
[00:01:37.560]University of Nebraska has impacted my life
[00:01:39.510]by giving me the opportunities and confidence
[00:01:42.230]to be able to make an impact on my state and on the world.
