- [00:01:08.110]Well Bob actually came and joined us last May.
- [00:01:11.760]So he's been been on board over the best part
- [00:01:15.750]of this past year and has hit the ground running
- [00:01:17.980]and he essentially leads all of our research
- [00:01:20.385]and our economic development thing.
- [00:01:22.990]Things like innovation campus
- [00:01:24.450]for example effort across
- [00:01:26.650]the comprehensive research university for Nebraska.
- [00:01:30.150]So Bob great to have him here.
- [00:01:32.230]Absolutely
- [00:01:33.063]Bob. It is good to have you with us here.

- [00:01:35.850]Talk a bit about what's been happening
- [00:01:37.590]and kind of your vision moving forward.
- [00:01:39.628]Thanks Greg.
- [00:01:41.100]Well it's been a great move for me.
- [00:01:42.830]This is an exciting place to be.
- [00:01:44.410]There's lots of very talented faculty students here.
- [00:01:47.296]It's also it's been great to arrive here at this time.
- [00:01:51.323]It's an exciting time for the
- [00:01:52.834]for Nebraska's research university.
- [00:01:55.104]And we're we're celebrating our 150th year
- [00:01:58.420]as is Nebraska's land grant university.
- [00:02:00.960]It's an it's it's so important.
- [00:02:03.070]That's that's the really brings me here gets me
- [00:02:05.780]up early every morning.
- [00:02:06.658]The research and economic development in creativity
- [00:02:09.950]creative activity are an integral part
- [00:02:12.150]of both the university
- [00:02:13.230]but also the impact that the university has on the state
- [00:02:15.745]and really the world at large.
- [00:02:18.306]We have now our public private innovation
- [00:02:21.410]hub is fueling economic growth.
- [00:02:23.722]It's helping this it attract some
- [00:02:26.180]of the most innovative faculty
- [00:02:27.013]and also providing some very unique experiences
- [00:02:30.859]for students both with their classes
- [00:02:32.549]but also with their work with companies
- [00:02:35.020]both startup companies but well-established companies.
- [00:02:38.420]And just recently we opened a new 80000 square foot building
- [00:02:42.725]one more on development where we're almost we're
- [00:02:46.791]we're well ahead of schedule in terms of building
- [00:02:50.500]out what we think might be a 2 million square foot campus.
- [00:02:53.870]Things are going along really well.
- [00:02:54.755]We're seeing more collaborative research more partnerships
- [00:02:58.370]with companies here in Lincoln
- [00:02:59.964]and both for the state of Nebraska.
- [00:03:02.120]Our researchers are leaders in many different fields
- [00:03:05.860]ranging from the arts ,
- [00:03:07.197]different areas in the humanities,
- [00:03:09.668]engineering, computer science,
- [00:03:11.576]different physical sciences
- [00:03:13.437]and of course all of our strength
- [00:03:15.294]in Child and Family Development
- [00:03:17.302]but as well agriculture
- [00:03:19.440]of course is just the keystone
- [00:03:21.917]for all of our research enterprise.
- [00:03:23.764]And there's so many different examples.
- [00:03:26.440]I mean I can only name a few.
- [00:03:28.069]But so for example in terms of agriculture some
- [00:03:31.947]of the things that we're really paying attention
- [00:03:34.480]to now have to do with making all of our crops
- [00:03:37.530]and our more resilient to all of the changes that we see in
- [00:03:41.300]the world particularly for agriculture
- [00:03:43.053]but also for natural ecosystems around the state
- [00:03:46.700]and around the world.
- [00:03:47.900]Of course Nebraska is well-known for different authors
- [00:03:51.079]Willa Katharine being one of them.
- [00:03:52.995]We're well on her way in a new effort
- [00:03:55.410]to have all of Willa Cathy's letters published
- [00:03:57.875]electronically to an archive that people
- [00:04:00.790]in the state can make use of
- [00:04:02.020]but also the scholars all around the world can work on.
- [00:04:05.510]So just a few examples to give you some flavor
- [00:04:08.230]of what's going on here.
- [00:04:09.514]Again that's been the I'm really happy
- [00:04:11.840]to be part of the team into building growth for the
- [00:04:14.408]for the state and for the university at Nebraska.
- [00:04:17.310]We're building for the future
- [00:04:18.410]and creating knowledge fuel solutions that are essential
- [00:04:21.001]both to our state and also to the world.
- [00:04:23.520]Well. It's wonderful to have you here Bob
- [00:04:25.836]and chance for another great addition to your team.
- [00:04:27.070]Absolutely. We were really happy to welcome Bob,
- [00:04:29.920]he came to us from the University North Carolina
- [00:04:31.817]earlier this year and has some roots here in the Midwest.
- [00:04:35.250]And we were glad to get him back.
- [00:04:37.429]So great work that's happening well across the campus
- [00:04:41.340]and as as Bob said you know our goal is to continue
- [00:04:45.875]to be a bigger research university moving forward in areas
- [00:04:49.219]that matter to Nebraska just like we're planning
- [00:04:51.920]to celebrate that big 150th anniversary coming up
- [00:04:54.510]this next week in our charter Week celebration.
- [00:04:56.124]Absolutely.
- [00:04:57.860]Great to see both you Bob.
- [00:04:58.693]Great to see you again Chancellor.
- [00:04:59.960]Always good to see you.
- [00:05:00.870]Go big Greg.
- [00:05:01.740]Back with more half time. Coming up next.
