[00:00:07.913]My name is Alair.
[00:00:08.746]We're here outside
[00:00:09.579]of the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons.
[00:00:12.000]These Learning Commons opened in January of 2016,
[00:00:15.050]and they're personally, my favorite place to study,
[00:00:17.010]so let's go in and check it out.
[00:00:21.180]So the Learning Commons are open from 7:30 a.m.
[00:00:23.640]to 2:00 a.m. every single day.
[00:00:25.410]The last two weeks of school, they're open 24/7,
[00:00:27.770]so students have an open environment to come and study.
[00:00:30.600]We also have our Dunkin Donuts right here,
[00:00:32.460]which is a great resource for students to come
[00:00:34.230]and get some coffee early in the morning or late at night,
[00:00:36.580]but this is not included with your meal plan.
[00:00:38.780]So let's go check out some of the other resources
[00:00:40.780]that the Learning Commons has to offer.
[00:00:45.710]One of the resources that awe have here
[00:00:47.200]in the Learning Commons is the University Police Office.
[00:00:49.770]Here, they offer what we call a Safe Walk program,
[00:00:52.280]so you can just call the number on their door
[00:00:54.050]and on the back of your N card, and they will go ahead
[00:00:56.420]and walk you to your residence hall or your car,
[00:00:58.900]if you don't feel comfortable walking late at night.
[00:01:01.080]Personally, as a female minority on campus,
[00:01:03.180]I've always felt very safe.
[00:01:04.320]I've never felt threatened, but we do offer this resource
[00:01:07.210]for students to use if they would like someone
[00:01:08.910]to walk them back to their residence hall or car.
[00:01:11.160]Now let's go check out the study rooms.
[00:01:15.240]Right here, we have one of our very interactive study rooms
[00:01:17.810]that we have here in the Learning Commons.
[00:01:19.710]You can reserve these up to two weeks in advance for free.
[00:01:22.520]Right next to me you can see which times are reserved,
[00:01:25.090]and you can even walk up and reserve them if you would like.
[00:01:27.820]As you can see, all the walls in there are whiteboards,
[00:01:30.310]so they're really great for group study.
[00:01:32.150]I personally have used them to create
[00:01:33.650]lesson plans with my friends.
[00:01:35.090]There's also a TV in there that you can use,
[00:01:37.010]so you can connect your wireless device to it,
[00:01:38.820]or you can use a cord.
[00:01:40.165]It's great for rewatching lectures, working on a PowerPoint.
[00:01:43.550]Next, let's go check out the Digital Learning Center.
[00:01:50.930]So this is the Digital Learning Center.
[00:01:52.740]It's basically an online testing center
[00:01:54.650]that students have at their convenience.
[00:01:56.660]It's open seven days a week, so if your professor says,
[00:01:59.460]you have from Monday at 8:00 a.m. to Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
[00:02:02.270]to come and take your exam, you can take it any time
[00:02:04.760]that works for you in that window,
[00:02:06.320]so if you're someone who functions better in the morning,
[00:02:08.710]you could take it at 8:00 a.m.
[00:02:10.220]If you're someone who functions better at night,
[00:02:11.570]you can take it at 7:00 p.m.
[00:02:12.980]It's totally up to you.
[00:02:14.080]Also, let's say you're studying 30 minutes before your exam
[00:02:16.770]and you decide that you need another two hours to study
[00:02:18.960]because you don't feel prepared,
[00:02:20.480]you can change the time of your exam without any penalty.
[00:02:22.799]Not every professor will use the Digital Learning Center,
[00:02:25.430]but if they do, this is a really awesome place
[00:02:27.420]to come and do that.
[00:02:28.340]Next, let's go check out Husker Tech and the Ask Us desk.
[00:02:34.910]Husker Tech is a service provided
[00:02:36.440]to students by the university.
[00:02:38.150]If your computer gets a virus or something's wrong with it,
[00:02:40.760]you can bring it here, and they can help you figure out
[00:02:42.690]what's wrong with it.
[00:02:43.750]While they're helping you figure it out,
[00:02:45.080]you can definitely check out a laptop
[00:02:46.515]for up to seven days at a time.
[00:02:48.540]They offer PCs and Macs, so whatever your preference is,
[00:02:51.350]you can use.
[00:02:52.183]Ask Us is a resource that students can use
[00:02:54.160]if you have any general questions about the library,
[00:02:56.760]from where to get a book, how to use a research site,
[00:02:59.904]and if you need a book sent to from a different university
[00:03:02.900]or a different library, they can do that for you right here.
[00:03:07.220]So this is the end of our tour
[00:03:08.590]of the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons.
[00:03:10.630]Please come visit me for a real tour.
[00:03:12.200]I would love to show you around.
[00:03:13.760]You can schedule one at go.unl.edu/visit,
[00:03:17.000]and I hope to see you here soon.
