[00:00:16.730]in Nebraska as it is.
[00:00:17.810]We're a small State,
[00:00:18.700]so we have the luxury
[00:00:19.690]of really creating a close knit community
[00:00:22.120]amongst the different types of professions within the field.
[00:00:24.840]Our policy work really does benefit
[00:00:26.470]from early childhood research.
[00:00:28.410]Within policy there's never a cut and dry answer,
[00:00:31.790]there's always two sides of any particular policy,
[00:00:34.230]or any particular bill,
[00:00:36.160]and for good reason,
[00:00:37.780]and research really gives us kind of a guide post
[00:00:40.880]to go by so when there's competing opinions,
[00:00:43.540]or competing sides,
[00:00:44.750]we try to use research
[00:00:46.120]and what we see as the strongest evidence
[00:00:48.530]for what's best for children and families
[00:00:50.865]as a way to guide our path
[00:00:53.590]and guide our stance on any particular issue.
[00:00:56.390]But again, obvious in the real world,
[00:00:57.927]it's not always practical to implement
[00:01:01.900]maybe what research says in best.
[00:01:04.588]But we try to promote those policies
[00:01:05.730]that we think are gonna promote the best outcomes
[00:01:08.630]for children and families.
[00:01:10.030]When I think about Nebraska
[00:01:12.073]an area in need of more early childhood research
[00:01:16.047]is not so much an area in general,
[00:01:19.310]but it's more about how are we bringing to bare the research
[00:01:23.970]in policy decisions.
[00:01:26.490]I've spent many hours in the unicameral
[00:01:29.030]working on policy issues,
[00:01:30.920]and I really think we would benefit
[00:01:34.379]as a community, from figuring out
[00:01:36.590]how do we translate that research
[00:01:38.370]into policy decisions.
[00:01:40.100]So how are we making the most of the research
[00:01:43.350]when it comes to not only policy decisions,
[00:01:47.640]but the public funding that is underlying
[00:01:50.050]all of this work.
