- [00:00:09.740]Hello, my name is Jordan Bothern.
- [00:00:11.610]I am a senior mechanized systems management student
- [00:00:14.570]here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:17.040]I am also a Cultivate ACCESS Ambassador,
- [00:00:19.830]and today I'm here to introduce to you
- [00:00:22.000]the mentors from Neogen, GeneSeek.
- [00:00:24.860]Danielle Keys, she is a processing lab manager.
- [00:00:28.440]Susanne Hinkley is a veterinary diagnostic specialist,
- [00:00:32.170]and Jenny Grose is a data analysis manager.
- [00:00:43.150]I'm Danielle Keys.
- [00:00:44.370]I am a lab processing manager at GeneSeek, Neogen.
- [00:00:47.980]Well, my name is Susanne Hinkley.
- [00:00:49.680]I am here with GeneSeek, Neogen,
- [00:00:53.077]and I am the director of the veterinary diagnostic section.
- [00:00:55.880]I'm Jenny Grose.
- [00:00:58.050]I am the data analysis group manager here at GeneSeek.
- [00:01:08.750]I manage a part of our process, which is in between.
- [00:01:13.790]After a DNA extraction, we add chemistries
- [00:01:17.520]to the already extracted DNA platform base
- [00:01:21.020]and then we produce data,
- [00:01:22.430]which we ultimately pass on to the data group.
- [00:01:25.410]I oversee what's a diagnostic labs,
- [00:01:30.460]all the disease testing that takes place.
- [00:01:33.450]My responsibility is to, I guess,
- [00:01:37.480]take all the data that's processed in the labs
- [00:01:40.130]and check it for integrity,
- [00:01:42.700]making sure that there were no mistakes made.
- [00:01:44.690]And quality, so how good
- [00:01:46.000]are the results we're gonna send out.
- [00:01:47.760]Package that up and send it to customers.
- [00:01:55.010]That I have direct contact with all our clients,
- [00:01:59.040]and I get to see how the service we provide
- [00:02:02.470]in the laboratory really integrates
- [00:02:04.860]into what they need for their business.
- [00:02:09.389]I get excited because I think
- [00:02:11.580]there's a lot of opportunities here.
- [00:02:14.570]And I also think that what we're doing
- [00:02:16.380]is very important overall.
- [00:02:18.780]We're trying to feed the world
- [00:02:19.880]and make sure that there will be food,
- [00:02:21.360]enough food for our children's children.
- [00:02:24.620]So that's very important to me
- [00:02:26.290]and I like working in a place
- [00:02:27.520]where I feel like I'm making an impact.
- [00:02:34.970]Our niche is that we provide
- [00:02:38.550]same day turnaround results.
- [00:02:41.400]So when samples come in,
- [00:02:43.890]in the morning and in the early afternoon,
- [00:02:46.340]then we have to process them
- [00:02:48.670]fast and efficient enough that we can report results
- [00:02:51.920]out for those samples that same day.
- [00:02:54.180]And that requires constant communication
- [00:02:57.600]among the team members
- [00:03:00.340]because that's the only way
- [00:03:01.410]that we can develop efficiencies
- [00:03:03.890]that allow us to process all samples
- [00:03:06.330]that come in in one day.
- [00:03:08.780]I really love working here because
- [00:03:10.380]I get to work with really great people who
- [00:03:14.020]I think really believe in me and I believe in them,
- [00:03:16.790]and we're all working towards a common goal,
- [00:03:18.450]which is to make this company the best that it can be.
- [00:03:26.990]I found GeneSeek my senior year.
- [00:03:29.030]They were hiring, I was the tenth employee hired.
- [00:03:32.270]Started out with part-time in the office
- [00:03:34.550]and part-time in the lab.
- [00:03:35.560]I had zero office experience,
- [00:03:37.410]and the lab experience I had came through my education.
- [00:03:40.000]I'm originally from Germany and when I grew up
- [00:03:44.090]I had the idea in my head
- [00:03:45.690]that I was going to be a practicing veterinarian.
- [00:03:53.320]I like to do arts and crafts stuff every now and then.
- [00:03:57.770]I don't know, scrapbooking, stuff like that.
- [00:03:59.960]I enjoy spending time with my husband and my kids.
- [00:04:04.380]My husband and I ride motorcycles together,
- [00:04:06.551]so we love traveling.
