- [00:00:06.460]Hello, my name is Taylor Neilsen.
- [00:00:08.250]I'm an agriculture education major
- [00:00:10.400]at the University of Nebraska and I am a sophomore.
- [00:00:13.260]I am also an ambassador for the Cultivate Access program.
- [00:00:16.669]In this video, I will introduce Jenny Rees,
- [00:00:20.110]an extension educator from the Nebraska Extension.
- [00:00:31.000]I grew up on a small farm in northeast Nebraska.
- [00:00:35.160]I was the oldest of five kids so I was Dad's
- [00:00:40.241]right hand person regarding managing our furrow
- [00:00:45.220]to finish operation.
- [00:00:48.000]Then also helping Dad with driving tractor
- [00:00:52.550]at times, as well.
- [00:00:54.610]But I grew to love plants and I knew that one day,
- [00:00:58.600]I wanted to do something with farmers and with plants.
- [00:01:04.670]I've been in Extension for almost 15 years now.
- [00:01:09.340]Extension just provides an opportunity to
- [00:01:14.090]get to help people every day, every day is different.
- [00:01:17.260]I get to learn new things.
- [00:01:19.290]Some things I do every day is just get to be
- [00:01:23.040]a detective, really, in answering farmers
- [00:01:27.176]or working with Ag industry or crop consultants,
- [00:01:30.230]answering their questions.
- [00:01:32.010]Also working with homeowners, answering questions
- [00:01:36.270]about what's wrong with their lawns or trees,
- [00:01:38.350]their gardens.
- [00:01:43.170]Regarding teamwork and communication,
- [00:01:46.760]Extension is really known for teamwork.
- [00:01:50.210]Everything that we do revolves around teams.
- [00:01:56.850]Ultimately, we'll providing unbiased research-based
- [00:01:59.230]information so every day is an opportunity
- [00:02:03.140]to learn but also to hopefully answer
- [00:02:07.180]the questions that our farmers and Ag industry
- [00:02:09.570]professionals have as well as hopefully make
- [00:02:12.720]a difference in their lives and their operations.
- [00:02:17.820]I enjoy hiking and camping, doing anything outdoors.
- [00:02:22.500]My greatest joy in life is to be Aunt Jenny
- [00:02:25.910]to eight nieces and nephews who I love very much.
- [00:02:29.080]That's me.
- [00:02:31.360](soft music)
