Please help support the work that the Lighthouse does with at-risk youth by giving to the United Way.

[00:00:07.730]the first day after I got outta elementary school.
[00:00:10.530]I was really excited.
[00:00:11.580]I heard a lot of good things about it.
[00:00:12.860]So Lighthouse is a community-based,
[00:00:14.670]after school program for middle and high school students.
[00:00:18.300]And our number one goal is to increase
[00:00:20.130]the likelihood they'll graduate with high school diploma
[00:00:23.260]'cause we believe that's the stepping stone
[00:00:25.020]for their success in life.
[00:00:27.030]I wouldn't really focus much in school
[00:00:29.580]or do the best that I could.
[00:00:31.650]And they just always made sure you had
[00:00:33.740]someone there to help you with whatever
[00:00:34.980]you were struggling with.
[00:00:36.070]With homework help, math help, and all that.
[00:00:38.450]I don't care what background they come from.
[00:00:40.410]We want our young people to dream big,
[00:00:42.200]we want them to become engineers and doctors,
[00:00:45.390]and we don't want them to think that just because
[00:00:48.700]nobody in their family has done it that they can't do it.

[00:00:52.960]really care about their youth.
[00:00:54.620]I feel like if I wouldn't have gone to Lighthouse.
[00:00:56.400]It would have been a lot harder
[00:00:58.680]to even get through high school
[00:01:01.200]'cause I remember I wasn't even sure
[00:01:02.880]if I was gonna get through it.
[00:01:04.490]But thanks to Lighthouse and all that motivation,
[00:01:07.670]it pushed me forward and I wanted to further my education
[00:01:10.390]and my future for the better.
[00:01:12.980]And we can only be what we can see.
[00:01:15.400]And that's why we wanna just show everything
[00:01:18.980]that is offered for our young people.
[00:01:21.180]What I want to do is be a strength coach
[00:01:23.060]and a certified strength coach possibly.
[00:01:25.810]Who knows how long it'll take, maybe own my own gym.
[00:01:28.890]United Way helps nonprofit organizations,
[00:01:32.490]places like Lighthouse, and if more people donate
[00:01:35.800]to United Way, they can donate more to Lighthouse,
[00:01:38.850]helping more kids.
[00:01:40.320]I know the impact that can be made.
[00:01:43.620]And I always preach and talk about
[00:01:46.090]even the smallest, minute amount makes a huge impact.
[00:01:49.940]And so when I'm talking about the University of Nebraska
[00:01:52.640]and one of the largest employers in the state,
[00:01:55.340]can you even imagine what can be done
[00:01:58.830]with the power of the Huskers?
[00:02:00.550]And so I'm hoping that the University of Nebraska
[00:02:02.970]steps up 'cause they can make a profound impact
[00:02:06.470]on this community and on the lives of our young people.
