- [00:00:00.420](bright inspiring music)
- [00:00:08.220]From mealtime to playtime to story time,
- [00:00:10.920]children have many opportunities each day
- [00:00:13.730]to learn and practice healthy habits.
- [00:00:16.570]Go NAP SACC is a trusted process
- [00:00:19.020]that helps childcare programs go the extra mile
- [00:00:21.500]to support children's healthy eating and physical activity.
- [00:00:24.790]There are five steps to the Go NAP SACC process.
- [00:00:28.360]First, childcare providers complete a pre self-assessment.
- [00:00:32.760]Second is attending a Go NAP SACC training.
- [00:00:35.386]The third step is to develop an action plan.
- [00:00:38.700]And the fourth step
- [00:00:39.550]is to work to reach those goals.
- [00:00:41.490]The final step
- [00:00:42.410]is to complete a post self-assessment.
- [00:00:45.617](bright inspiring music)
- [00:00:50.970]The first step of the Go NAP SACC process
- [00:00:53.420]is for the childcare director or owner
- [00:00:55.940]to complete the pre self-assessment.
- [00:00:58.265]The pre self-assessment allows the childcare program
- [00:01:01.960]to see their strengths as well as the areas for improvement
- [00:01:05.876]around nutrition and physical activity.
- [00:01:08.980]This online assessment takes about
- [00:01:10.700]one hour to complete and asks questions
- [00:01:12.930]on five main health areas
- [00:01:15.030]including breastfeeding and infant feeding,
- [00:01:17.150]child nutrition, infant and child physical activity,
- [00:01:20.630]outdoor play and learning, and screen time.
- [00:01:23.169](bright inspiring music)
- [00:01:28.210]The second step is to attend a Go NAP SACC training.
- [00:01:31.430]Trainings are conducted by a Go NAP SACC trainer
- [00:01:34.440]and will provide you with education
- [00:01:36.450]around the following six topic areas.
- [00:01:39.360]Early Care Matters: Obesity Prevention,
- [00:01:42.560]Supporting Breastfeeding and Infant Feeding in Child Care,
- [00:01:46.140]Nutrition for Young Children, Personal Health and Wellness,
- [00:01:50.358]Infant and Child Physical Activity,
- [00:01:53.108]and Growing Healthy Children Together:
- [00:01:55.790]Promoting Family Engagement.
- [00:01:57.970]This six-hour educational training is free to attend
- [00:02:00.900]and offers state-approved in service hours.
- [00:02:03.970]It incorporates hands-on skill-building activities
- [00:02:07.200]such as new ideas to increase the amount
- [00:02:09.960]and type of physical activity offered to children,
- [00:02:12.968]healthy recipes, and resources to use in classrooms
- [00:02:17.120]as well as share with families.
- [00:02:19.050]You can find a list of the current Go NAP SACC trainings
- [00:02:21.380]at the Nebraska Go NAP SACC website.
- [00:02:23.660]When I went to the Go NAP SACC trainings,
- [00:02:25.410]I was able to learn some new games and activities
- [00:02:27.980]and fun ways to introduce children to health and nutrition
- [00:02:31.000]and physical activities that we were able to bring back
- [00:02:33.580]and implement in the classrooms
- [00:02:35.360]and we use those practices ongoing.
- [00:02:37.947](bright inspiring music)
- [00:02:42.186]The third step of the Go NAP SACC process
- [00:02:44.250]is action planning.
- [00:02:45.740]This involves developing an action plan
- [00:02:48.470]along with the help of a Go NAP SACC trainer
- [00:02:51.000]to assist you in setting goals related to chosen key areas
- [00:02:55.280]contained on the self-assessment.
- [00:02:57.510]One of the goals that we had set with the NAPP SAC process
- [00:03:00.450]was to increase physical activity
- [00:03:02.720]and the kids really enjoyed that.
- [00:03:04.620]Because of Go NAP SACC, we were able to set goals
- [00:03:07.057]related to some of our policies about
- [00:03:10.590]food and nutrition in our program.
- [00:03:12.860]We took a look at how we celebrate birthdays with children.
- [00:03:15.760]We took a look at allergies
- [00:03:17.500]and we were able to update and modify
- [00:03:20.360]and make a really strong, solid plan for the program.
- [00:03:23.570]All of that is a result of doing the pre assessment
- [00:03:26.280]and then setting the goals and sticking to the goals.
- [00:03:29.046]The Go NAP SACC trainer's role is to be there,
- [00:03:32.410]to help provide the information, resources,
- [00:03:35.780]and support that childcare providers need
- [00:03:38.630]to accomplish the goals on their action plan.
- [00:03:41.850]I really enjoy the relationship part of it.
- [00:03:44.690]I get to know them in that six-hour training.
- [00:03:47.210]And then that one-on-one time where we're setting goals
- [00:03:50.130]and seeing what resources they need.
- [00:03:51.956]And then when we get to the point
- [00:03:54.150]where okay, we've met those goals,
- [00:03:56.320]I continue to be a resource for them.
- [00:03:59.240]And so, I just let them know whatever their needs are,
- [00:04:02.650]they can call on me.
- [00:04:04.250]My role as a Go NAP SACC trainer
- [00:04:06.420]is to provide resources and support
- [00:04:09.500]for the director and teachers at the center
- [00:04:11.440]that I'm working with.
- [00:04:12.570]Help them create and implement goals
- [00:04:15.537]that are based around their pre assessment
- [00:04:18.930]and help them create sustainable realistic change
- [00:04:22.300]regarding healthy eating and being physically active
- [00:04:26.370]in their classroom.
- [00:04:27.716](bright inspiring music)
- [00:04:32.537]The final step of the Go NAP SACC process
- [00:04:34.620]is completed by doing the Go NAP SACC self-assessment again.
- [00:04:38.160]Notice the post self-assessment.
- [00:04:40.220]Go NAP SACC is a continual process.
- [00:04:43.010]Meaning you will set and reach those goals,
- [00:04:46.520]celebrate your progress made,
- [00:04:48.484]then plan your next set of nutrition
- [00:04:51.030]and physical activity goals.
- [00:04:53.240]One of the things I really liked about the assessments
- [00:04:55.940]was that it gave you measurable progress.
- [00:04:58.160]We could go in and see where we've come from,
- [00:04:59.950]we could see that we were making progress
- [00:05:01.940]which is a huge motivator
- [00:05:03.400]and it really pushed me and the staff
- [00:05:05.020]to continue to move forward
- [00:05:06.300]to see how high we could get.
- [00:05:08.137](bright inspiring music)
- [00:05:13.300]Quality early care in education is crucial
- [00:05:16.010]to a child's future success.
- [00:05:18.100]Step Up to Quality is Nebraska's quality rating
- [00:05:20.600]and improvement system.
- [00:05:22.190]Step Up to Quality assists childcare programs
- [00:05:24.560]and providers in recognizing and improving quality
- [00:05:27.290]and increasing positive outcomes for our youngest kids.
- [00:05:30.396]We incorporated Go NAP SACC into our system
- [00:05:33.300]because we know how important health and nutrition
- [00:05:35.665]and physical activity are for learning and development.
- [00:05:39.200]Go NAP SACC fits right in with the goals
- [00:05:41.290]of Step Up to Quality.
- [00:05:42.760]It helps to improve the nutrition
- [00:05:44.470]and physical activity practices of the program
- [00:05:47.220]by providing an assessment tool
- [00:05:49.350]as well as training and education opportunities
- [00:05:51.940]for administrators, staff, and family childcare providers.
- [00:05:55.650]Go NAP SACC provides free resources to equip programs
- [00:05:58.970]with the education, skills, and tools necessary
- [00:06:02.490]to achieve their goals and earn points
- [00:06:04.670]related to nutrition and physical activity.

- [00:06:19.660]Go NAP SACC is a process that both childcare providers
- [00:06:22.510]and the Go NAP SACC trainers enjoy working through together.
- [00:06:25.526]I think the most helpful thing was
- [00:06:29.780]getting to know the trainer, Renee.
- [00:06:32.740]And then also the group.
- [00:06:34.556]I'm still in contact with some of those girls
- [00:06:37.097]and so we'll throw ideas at each other
- [00:06:40.830]and say hey, what do you think about this?
- [00:06:42.760]NAP SACC truly is one of my favorite programs to provide.
- [00:06:47.980]In the end, I feel like I'm kinda walking away
- [00:06:49.690]with a friend, not just a trainer.
- [00:06:51.360]Somebody I can reach out to going forward
- [00:06:53.540]and that partnership is really important to me.
- [00:06:56.646]You get a lot of people who come in
- [00:06:58.130]and give you a best practice and walk away.
- [00:07:00.210]Paige has been a solid year with us,
- [00:07:01.640]helping us implement that program.
- [00:07:03.444]The thing I love most about being a Go NAP SACC trainer
- [00:07:07.210]is getting to create really positive relationships
- [00:07:11.320]and rapport with the director and providers of the center.
- [00:07:15.910]This really helps create an established trust and respect
- [00:07:21.320]to where teachers feel empowered that they can
- [00:07:24.490]create and implement the changes needed
- [00:07:26.838]based around their pre assessment
- [00:07:29.310]and the goals that we've set.
- [00:07:31.010]The NAP SACC program is awesome because
- [00:07:33.657]a lot of times we hear about the focus on education
- [00:07:36.410]and the kids' learning capabilities
- [00:07:38.010]and we forget they're little humans
- [00:07:39.520]that have to eat and go play
- [00:07:40.810]and without those activities,
- [00:07:42.610]they don't want to sit and learn.
- [00:07:44.610]So, it really gives us a balance
- [00:07:46.080]of meeting that curriculum component
- [00:07:47.980]and what parents and schools feel are important
- [00:07:50.200]with what's best for children's bodies and brains
- [00:07:52.860]to keep them on the path to learning.
- [00:07:54.800]If you don't get your wiggles out, you can't sit still.
- [00:07:57.270]You can play an important role
- [00:07:59.160]in helping to raise healthy children through your care
- [00:08:03.380]by providing a healthy environment
- [00:08:05.520]for them to eat, play, and grow.
- [00:08:08.400]You are an important role model for children
- [00:08:10.600]and can help them to build healthy habits for life.
- [00:08:14.210]For more information about Go NAP SACC,
