- [00:00:00.000]In this video I'll walk through
- [00:00:04.130]the direct cost sheet. In the
- [00:00:06.430]sheet you'll
- [00:00:07.020]enter all costs other than
- [00:00:08.650]personnel such as equipment,
- [00:00:10.590]travel, and supplies.
- [00:00:12.080]This sheet will also pull totals
- [00:00:14.290]from the separate subaward and
- [00:00:16.410]study subject
- [00:00:17.360]payment sheets which we'll
- [00:00:19.570]cover in this video. The first
- [00:00:22.250]section on this sheet is
- [00:00:24.060]labeled personnel cost. This
- [00:00:26.090]section simply pulls totals
- [00:00:27.890]from the personnel
- [00:00:28.860]sheet and breaks them down by
- [00:00:30.560]year. It also includes the
- [00:00:32.250]fringe benefit totals
- [00:00:33.660]broken down by year. The next
- [00:00:36.310]section labeled equipment
- [00:00:38.340]provides several rows
- [00:00:39.480]to include the name and cost
- [00:00:41.500]for equipment used in this
- [00:00:43.440]study. Note that
- [00:00:45.480]equipment is defined as a
- [00:00:47.000]single item with a useful life
- [00:00:48.820]of more than one year
- [00:00:50.160]and a cost of $5,000 or more.
- [00:00:53.760]Here we would want to see a
- [00:00:55.800]description of the
- [00:00:56.620]piece of equipment and the cost
- [00:00:57.720]and the cost of the equipment.
- [00:00:57.720]The cost in the project year
- [00:00:59.880]that it will be purchased. The
- [00:01:02.750]third section is
- [00:01:04.080]travel. There are two rows one
- [00:01:05.810]for reporting domestic travel
- [00:01:07.440]and one for
- [00:01:07.980]reporting international travel.
- [00:01:09.900]The total for each year is
- [00:01:12.000]input into the correct
- [00:01:13.740]type of travel. There is also a
- [00:01:16.170]check box that is labeled
- [00:01:17.760]travel calculator. If
- [00:01:19.560]this box is checked then a
- [00:01:21.130]separate sheet will be opened
- [00:01:23.040]where a more
- [00:01:23.880]detailed travel budget can be
- [00:01:24.140]entered. Selecting this will
- [00:01:24.410]clear the question.
- [00:01:24.680]If the check box is checked
- [00:01:25.010]then a separate sheet will be
- [00:01:25.370]opened where a more detailed
- [00:01:25.650]travel budget can be entered.
- [00:01:25.720]Selecting this will clear the
- [00:01:25.800]question. If the check box is
- [00:01:25.880]checked then a separate sheet
- [00:01:25.970]will be opened where a more
- [00:01:26.030]detailed travel budget can be
- [00:01:26.110]entered.
- [00:01:26.360]Selecting this will clear the
- [00:01:26.600]question. If the check box is
- [00:01:26.720]checked then a separate sheet
- [00:01:26.740]will be opened where a more
- [00:01:26.740]detailed travel budget can be
- [00:01:26.750]entered.
- [00:01:26.860]If the check box is checked
- [00:01:26.950]then a separate sheet will be
- [00:01:27.060]opened where a more detailed
- [00:01:27.170]travel budget can be entered.
- [00:01:27.720]content in this sheet, lock
- [00:01:29.410]these cells, and pull in totals
- [00:01:31.290]from the travel calculator
- [00:01:32.820]sheet.
- [00:01:33.080]We'll go through this sheet in
- [00:01:34.760]more detail in another video.
- [00:01:36.680]The fourth section is labeled
- [00:01:38.610]participant support costs. This
- [00:01:40.920]section pulls totals from the
- [00:01:42.360]separate
- [00:01:42.680]participant support sheet that
- [00:01:44.530]appears if the corresponding
- [00:01:46.240]box is checked in the start
- [00:01:47.750]here
- [00:01:48.120]or direct cost sheets. Check
- [00:01:49.810]out the next video for more
- [00:01:51.260]information on how to complete
- [00:01:52.980]this sheet
- [00:01:53.960]and for more information on
- [00:01:55.270]participant support costs
- [00:01:56.580]versus study subject payments.
- [00:01:58.280]The fifth section is other
- [00:02:00.120]direct costs. This section
- [00:02:02.210]provides many rows to input
- [00:02:04.200]other costs included in the
- [00:02:05.990]project. These costs include
- [00:02:08.100]supplies, publication costs,
- [00:02:10.200]consultant services, computer
- [00:02:12.260]services, and any other costs
- [00:02:14.170]that need to be recorded. This
- [00:02:17.240]section
- [00:02:17.640]also includes the sub-award totals
- [00:02:19.440]that are pulled from a separate
- [00:02:21.000]sub-award sheet. To fill in the
- [00:02:23.400]sub-award information, you'll
- [00:02:23.580]need to fill out the sub-award
- [00:02:23.740]sheet. To fill in the sub-award
- [00:02:23.880]information, you'll need to
- [00:02:23.880]fill in the sub-award sheet. To
- [00:02:23.880]fill in the sub-award sheet,
- [00:02:23.880]you'll need to fill in the sub-award
- [00:02:23.880]sheet. To fill in the sub-award
- [00:02:23.880]sheet, you'll need to
- [00:02:23.880]fill in the sub-award sheet. To
- [00:02:23.880]fill in the sub-award sheet,
- [00:02:23.880]you'll need to fill in the sub-award
- [00:02:23.880]sheet.
- [00:02:23.880]To fill in the sub-award sheet,
- [00:02:24.050]you'll need to fill in the sub-award
- [00:02:24.240]sheet. To fill in the
- [00:02:27.400]information for up to 20 sub-awards.
- [00:02:29.480]Add the name of the institution
- [00:02:32.120]and the name of the PI at the
- [00:02:33.560]sub-award institution. Include
- [00:02:35.750]their annual direct costs and
- [00:02:37.570]their annual F&A or indirect
- [00:02:39.400]costs in
- [00:02:39.880]the second line. In column P,
- [00:02:42.310]you'll notice this question. Is
- [00:02:44.920]the sub part of NU System? This
- [00:02:48.680]is
- [00:02:48.840]included because UNL's practice
- [00:02:50.680]is to exclude the full amount
- [00:02:52.260]of sub-awards to any of our
- [00:02:53.800]sister institutions from the MTDC
- [00:02:56.740]F&A base. So if the sub-award
- [00:02:58.850]will be issued to UNMC,
- [00:03:00.280]UNO, or UNK, you can enter a Y
- [00:03:02.600]in this field and it will
- [00:03:04.470]exclude this line from the F&A
- [00:03:06.920]base.
- [00:03:07.240]Study subject payments, which
- [00:03:09.060]accounts for the sixth section,
- [00:03:11.000]involves all costs associated
- [00:03:12.600]with payments for human
- [00:03:13.840]subjects, which can include
- [00:03:15.390]incentives, travel reimbursement,
- [00:03:17.430]etc.
- [00:03:17.880]Check out the next video for
- [00:03:19.490]more information on how to
- [00:03:21.030]complete this sheet and for
- [00:03:22.640]more information
- [00:03:23.720]on participant support costs
- [00:03:25.030]versus study subject payments.
- [00:03:26.600]The totals for all direct costs
- [00:03:29.000]will be
- [00:03:29.240]compiled into a section at the
- [00:03:30.610]bottom of the direct cost sheet.
- [00:03:32.270]The total request along with
- [00:03:35.640]the totals for any cost share
- [00:03:37.460]are factored into the total. I
- [00:03:39.550]hope this was helpful for you.
- [00:03:41.640]Check
- [00:03:41.880]out the other videos in this
- [00:03:43.080]series for more in-depth
- [00:03:44.120]instructions on other sheets as
- [00:03:45.800]well as
- [00:03:46.120]general tips for using the
- [00:03:47.610]budget template workbook.
- [00:03:53.720]Thank you.
