UNL is in on the ground floor of a consortium of universities developing next generation learning management tools.

[00:00:19.242]as a founding member in the Unizin consortium
[00:00:21.631]is another indication of our enhanced national stature.

[00:00:29.613]and learn from the others as far as what's effective
[00:00:32.320]in working with our faculty and students.
[00:00:34.398]A key underlying strategy of the Unizin consortium
[00:00:37.903]is to actually get involved in the development
[00:00:40.098]of the educational technologies
[00:00:43.412]that universities are using to deliver course content
[00:00:48.125]and to help students learn.
[00:00:50.512]One advantage of Unizin is that we'll be able
[00:00:52.544]to work together with our partners
[00:00:54.181]to leverage our collective buying power.
[00:00:56.468]As a result, we'll have the best products
[00:00:58.627]from the commercial marketplace and we'll have
[00:01:01.158]our own locally developed products where necessary

[00:01:06.323]The commercial sector was not responding
[00:01:08.821]to the needs of higher education
[00:01:12.150]in the most effective way, so we,
[00:01:14.684]the members of the Unizin consortium
[00:01:16.855]felt they had to get involved in the development process
[00:01:20.071]so that these tools would better serve
[00:01:22.312]our faculty and our students.
[00:01:24.132]Unizin provides our faculty and students
[00:01:26.828]with leading edge, next-generation technology,
[00:01:29.635]in particular a great learning management system,
[00:01:32.703]very effective analytics tools,
[00:01:34.978]and easy-to-use digital repositories.
[00:01:37.962]Blackboard is the current LMS system here in use at UNL.
[00:01:41.956]The Unizin community uses Canvas,
[00:01:44.556]which is another LMS product which has received
[00:01:47.134]rave reviews nationally.
[00:01:48.597]We're currently pilot testing, and so far
[00:01:50.756]the feedback has been very positive.
[00:01:52.636]We have a lot of data that comes out of
[00:01:54.753]various educational tools, and the Unizin consortium
[00:01:58.758]is trying to take the lead in using that data
[00:02:02.021]to best advantage our students
[00:02:03.968]and to help our faculty become more effective teachers.
[00:02:07.646]One of the three major components of Unizin
[00:02:09.846]is digital content management.
[00:02:12.052]This is really important in that it allows our faculty
[00:02:15.960]to own their content and to work at their discretion
[00:02:20.248]in how they can share it within the community.
[00:02:22.442]Unizin will help our learning community
[00:02:24.439]go further and faster in terms of understanding
[00:02:26.633]best practices and having access to leading technologies.
[00:02:30.012]The tools being developed by Unizin
[00:02:32.090]will allow faculty to become more effective
[00:02:35.466]and more efficient in the classroom.
